MENTAL HEALTH

After having validated my diplomas to obtain my title as a clinical psychologist, I questioned this notion of “mental health”.

What is mental illness?

For the modern European, it is all that he cannot explain with his logic.
And even better, everything he cannot explain in order to control the other.
In this case, any attitude, behaviour or understanding of the world that deviates from its vision becomes a deviance, an anomaly, a pathology.

Through the colonization many populations have been led to consider things so as to deny their own understanding of the world in favour of a so-called scientific approach. Being attentive to voices that others do not hear without being able to explain it is a pathology. On the other hand, using a touch screen and explaining computers with a story of 1 and 0 makes sense.
As long as the world or a Western system is not able to explain, it is madness. Once a plausible reason or a logical explanation is given, it becomes a world novelty.
Mental health is such a relative, so normalised, contextual and social notion.

Fortunately, the World Health Organization is opening the question in an interesting way. Mental health is not only a matter of absence of symptoms but also the sensation of well-being on a daily basis.
It is a vision that poses fewer criteria, even if the relevance of the word symptom remains. Of course, many people under treatment, feel good, indeed. I have met many, and to be honest, most “patients” feel good until they are confronted with the norms, the difference and being disturbing to those around them.
Many feel good until a numbing treatment is imposed on them.
Yes, I met these people happy to live extraordinary things, completely out of step.
Things that elders, scholars, shamans, wizards, druids, might have explained to them.
Yes, I met insane people in good mental health until they were confronted with society.
I came across crazy people trying to fit into a deviant system.
I ran into people who were integrated at a symptomatic level as they were disconnected from their own balance. And I see these people proud of their modernity and dependent on antidepressants.

Mental health ?

Yes, let’s talk about it, just after explaining to entire populations that their very nature is prejudicial, their fanciful beliefs and their useless practices.

So, who’s sick?
What behaviours are really symptomatic?

Being in good mental health means being in harmony with oneself.
This harmony goes hand in hand with the harmony of the other and with his environment.
